If you don’t know what FyreUK or Minecraft is then I suggest you read my last post and if you don’t know what Cinema 4D is then I suggest you read my post on that.
[You’ll only understand what’s going on in the design if you have been following their videos on youtube]
I’ve been following FyreUK on youtube since it started, and last month they start a competition for a t-shirt design that would go on sell in their online store. I decided I would look at it from the view of a brief and at the same time get some practice using Cinema 4D. I was pretty happy with the way it turned out and I liked how Cinema 4D allowed me to position the Minecraft characters into any position and adjust the lighting as if it were a real photography studio.
Wednesday the 8th of August was the results night and I was really happy to hear that I had came Runner up after the two main winners. I still got my t-shirt design in the online store and I am now able to access their restricted Minecraft server. It’s really nice to be able to access the server, and I know from their youtube channel that they have a large following of people that would just love to be in my place. I was extremely chuffed to hear that my design was the best selling one too and the first to be sold. You can visit the online store and have a look. Here is also the video of the results.
Since the beginning of summer I’ve been wanting to try out some new software to see if it would make things easier in fourth year and I guess increase the overall quality of work. I needed something that would allow me to produce near photo realistic representations of ideas and concepts, so that I can get my ideas/thoughts across.
I came across a Cinema 4D (C4D) showreel on youtube one day and that started a obsession with stalking youtube looking for more. Eventually I came across tutorials of how to use the software and to be honest, it looked so much easier and more instinctive to use than other programs I’ve used like SolidWorks. Having watched the video, if left me wanting more and eventually I got my hands on the program and got some great additional stuff from Greyscalegorilla.
Since then I’ve racked up a few hours using it and watching more videos on youtube. I try to introduce myself to a new feature every week. C4D allows you to create animation, dynamic object that obey physics, realistic looking hair, complex shapes, realistic environment reflections and I’ve been busy trying to become familiar with as much of it as possible. I managed to find blueprints for the iPhone 4 and from them I’ve created a model which you can see below. In some of the pictures you can see the basic layout of the windows in the program. I’m still getting used to lighting and texturing my projects but with the help of Greyscalegorilla and his ‘Light Kit Pro’ I hope to make some as realistic as possible CG representations for future projects.
