Working with fabrics will defiantly take me out of my comfort zone. Working in wood and card comes as second nature to me. I know how to shape these materials and use them to my advantage. I know what tools to use, I know how to get a good finish. When it comes to using fabrics, everything’s new. It feels like you have to plan three steps ahead just to achieve the simplest thing and seems there’s an endless amount of terminology and key words.
I don’t want to specialise in only one area, I would like to be able to be asked to do something, then produce it at a very high standard. “mediocre” isn’t isn’t something I’m willing to settle for. I didn’t think being able to sew would come in handy or at least would appear in any one of my designs. But now that I know what kind of things can be made this way, I think I’m more likely to incorporate fabrics and other materials into designs and idea generation.
